Back when this blog was in its hey-day, a mere month and a half ago, I often discussed the prospects of writing with my blogging buddy. Within the confides of our shooting the shit, we shared ideas and concepts with one another, some better than others. After brainstorming some possible things I could write about this week, I thought it appropriate to share one of my personal favorite ideas.
The basic gist goes a little something like this: There’s this woman who is arrested for murder. I’m still ambivalent on who she’s killed and why, or even why it's a woman, but that’s besides the point. Just bare with me here. Anyhow, this woman is arrested and goes to prison, but is released shortly after her incarceration (why? I dunno). Upon her release, this woman shows no signs of regretting what she has done. In fact, she’s almost sort of proud of her crime. She soon begins to publicly profess how good her satisfaction was and encourages others to do so as well. This odd characteristic begins to catch on, and soon influences other people to partake. When enough people start following what she says, needless to say the shit hits the fan.
With summaries being what they are, just a general re-cap of the work as a whole, I feel I must also explain all the subtexts to y’all. What this story is, is really just a simple examination of the politics of free speech, and its PC boundaries. Like, is there really such a thing as going too far? Is having the power to say whatever we feel really worth all the hassle? Additionally, there's also some sort of commentary on the entire basis of modern Christianity. Challenging the very basic ideals of faith and spirituality. i.e. is it really all that sensible to blindly follow the word of one mortal human being (hint: no). Really, I don't know what this project is trying to communicate to the reader any more what actually happens within the story period.
So there you have it. Very much a work in progress as I've still yet to work out the kinks, provided I even feel like expanding upon it. At this moment, it's very sketchy and there are many details I still need to flesh out. There's still the entire plot and narrative structure that needs tending to. Hell, I don’t even have any characters, sans the instigator at the center. If per chance anybody happens to come across this post who thinks they know how to turn my concept into gold, by all means use it. Just give me due credit, thankyouverymuch.

i could make it a short story, crediting you, as you said. and we could both post it on our blogs. if you wanted something bigger, it could potentially be novella material. unfortunately i'd have to really expand on it and i don't exactly have time for something on that scale. but, if you would like me to turn this into a story for my collection (i think it fits into my scifi/horror project nicely) let me know and we can collaborate.
i'm not sure if i could clearly include everything you discussed (like the underlying christian theme.) i think that'd just be something the reader would have to get.
hope to hear from you, but if you don't want/need my help, hope you can turn this into something yourself. good luck. :]
hmm, a collaboration might not be such a bad idea, actually. I'm in need of all the help I can get with this project, in case you couldn't tell. :p
if we do wind up going through with this, perhaps we should just split it up so that we're working on the areas where our specialties lie. i.e. you can do tension and atmosphere building while I...uh, I'll figure something out, haha.
I don't know, just some random thoughts as to how we could go about this.
alright. what are you looking to turn it into, exactly? if it's on a large scale, make an outline.
I always did picture this story taking place on a larger scale. maybe a novella, like you said. (or dare I say, a script. but that would probably take waaay too much time, haha.)
I'd probably be able to create an outline of the story within the next few days, and we could decide what would be the best possible direction to take this based on how that turns out.
to be honest, a script is easier. it is predominantly dialogue and you don't have to worry about sprucing it up and making it pretty like you do a novella. so you're aware, the bare minimum for a script is ideally 20,000 words. i can guide you through it, but i can't write that anytime soon, haha.
as much as I lack experience in the general writing field, creating a script is something I've never even tried before. perhaps this would be a good opportunity to touch some new ground. and yes, some guidance on your part would be much appreciated, haha.
alright, this is a script writing event that happens in april: http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/. i don't expect you to participate, i'm just linking you to it because they do not clear the discussion boards until the next event, so maybe you can get some info you may need from browsing through them. idk if they still have the cameos up. really, i think anything on that site can be of use to you. http://celtx.com/ is free script writing software. it has templates for both screen and stage. (including television, i believe.) you are best off using the aforementioned software, as it will place all of your margins/spaces correctly and will save you editing time in the long run. good luck.
wow, thanks. I doubt I'll be able to get around to actually starting it until the end of the month at the very least, but it's still useful to have the necessary resources readily available. I'll let you know if/when there's some notable progress.
